What employers should consider for leave and absences
The template is a practical planning aid. It does not replace legal advice, but it highlights key points that are often missed in vacation planning, sickness and public holidays.
Classify minimum leave properly
German statutory minimum leave under BUrlG § 3 is described based on a six-day week. Part-time and other weekly models should be converted appropriately for your business.
Track sickness during vacation separately
Under BUrlG § 9, days of incapacity for work during vacation that are evidenced by a medical certificate are not counted against annual leave.
Check holidays and location rules
The template includes nationwide, regional and selected local public holidays for 2027. Workplace location, state law and company rules remain decisive.
Make overlaps visible
Vacation, sickness, special leave and home office are planned with status codes so shortages and cover needs become visible earlier.

You can document leave entitlement, remaining leave and working days per week for each person. Weekly models, entry or exit dates and statutory entitlement are not converted automatically; use the leave entitlement calculator where appropriate and have special cases reviewed.
Does sickness during vacation count as a vacation day?+
Under BUrlG § 9, days of incapacity for work during vacation that are evidenced by a medical certificate are not counted against annual leave. The template counts the corresponding sickness codes separately.
What is the difference between a vacation planner and an absence planner?+
A vacation planner focuses on vacation and remaining leave. An absence planner also covers sickness, special leave, home office or other absences. This template combines both.
