Two equivalent time routes

Three months or 70 working days: meeting either time limit may be enough

The planner evaluates calendar duration and planned working days separately. For one continuous job it checks three time months; for multiple periods it generally uses 90 credited calendar days.

All relevant short-term jobs in the calendar year must be included, including jobs with other employers. Overlapping periods and identical working dates are counted only once in this calculator.

The €603 threshold is not an earnings cap for short-term employment. Only regular monthly earnings above €603 trigger the separate professional-status assessment.

Built for seasonal planning

More than a one-person calculator

Multiple seasonal workers

Each person is assessed separately and shown with working days, calendar days and status in one season overview.

Multiple periods

Add previous and planned assignments, model interruptions and merge overlaps automatically.

Clear warnings

Near limits, missing prior jobs, professional status and unconfirmed agricultural rules stay visibly separate.

Local and data-conscious

Names, periods and personal status remain in your browser. Personal inputs are never put into a share link.

15 / 90weeks / working daysEffective from 2026

Agriculture: 15 weeks or 90 working days

Qualifying agricultural employing establishments use extended time limits in 2026. The official industry classification of the establishment matters, not just one worker's harvesting activity.

Mixed businesses and separate establishment numbers require a workforce-focus check. Without confirmation, the calculator therefore displays “check establishment status”.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about German short-term employment in 2026

What applies in 2026: three months or 70 working days?
Both limits are equivalent alternatives. A short-term job can meet the time requirement if it lasts no more than three months or no more than 70 working days. Weekly work frequency does not determine which route may be used.
How are multiple short-term jobs aggregated?
When a new job starts, relevant short-term jobs in the current calendar year are included, including jobs for other employers. Multiple periods generally use 90 credited calendar days or 70 working days. Overlapping working dates count only once.
Is €603 the earnings limit for seasonal workers?
No. Short-term employment generally has no overall earnings cap. Regular monthly earnings above €603 do, however, trigger a separate assessment of whether the work is carried out professionally.
When is short-term work carried out professionally?
Professional status may apply when the job is economically more than subordinate for the person. Indicators include unemployment, unpaid leave, parental leave or a gap between school and vocational training. A calculator cannot make the final personal assessment.
What applies to agriculture and harvest workers in 2026?
Since 1 January 2026, qualifying agricultural employing establishments use 15 weeks or 90 working days. The task alone is not enough; mixed businesses need an establishment-level workforce-focus assessment.
How is a night shift across midnight counted?
One continuous night shift over two calendar dates counts as one working day. Multiple short-term jobs for the same person on the same calendar date also count as only one working day for the limit.
What happens when a contract crosses New Year?
An ongoing contract is not automatically reassessed from scratch on 1 January. The entire known contract duration must remain within one time route. Cross-year cases and prior jobs should be reviewed separately by payroll.
Which records should the employer keep?
Important records include the advance fixed term, prior short-term jobs, projected regular monthly earnings and personal information relevant to professional status. The free pack supports handover but is not a complete employee questionnaire.
