Time tracking
Clock-in mode, self-service, and DACH breaks
10 articlesClocking in/out with the mobile app
With the Shiftdesk mobile app, you clock your working time directly from your smartphone. The app is the main way to record your actual working times in the **clock_based** or **hybrid** mode.
Reviewing and approving time entries
As a manager, you are responsible for making sure the recorded working times are correct before they move into Payroll. This article shows you the review and approval workflow.
The time log at a glance
The **Time log** is your central place for all recorded working times. Here you see all shifts, clockings and corrections — sorted by employee, day and status.
Creating and correcting manual time entries
Not every workday goes smoothly: sometimes someone forgets to clock in, sometimes the app doesn't work, sometimes a shift is taken over at short notice. For these cases there are manual time entries.
Tracking modes: Plan / Clock / Hybrid
Shiftdesk supports three modes of time tracking. Which one fits your company depends on the industry, the culture of trust and the legal requirements.
Configuring snap-to-shift and rounding
Clocked times are rarely exact. Employees clock 7:58 instead of 8:00 or 16:03 instead of 16:00. To keep your payroll clean, Shiftdesk offers two mechanisms: **snap** and **rounding**.
Break modes: automatic or manual
Breaks are one of the most common points of dispute in payroll. Shiftdesk offers five modes so you can choose the right strategy for each team.
Working-time account: target, actual and balance
The working-time account shows whether an employee has worked more or less than contractually agreed. It is the basis for overtime compensation, payout and fair workforce planning.
Working-time account corrections (payout, transfer, adjustment)
A working-time account does not develop in a linear way. Employees want to have plus hours paid out, minus hours from previous years are meant to be waived, or a balance is converted into vacation days. For all of this there are corrections.
Forgetting to clock out and the safety net
It happens: the end of the workday comes faster than expected, the phone rings, and clocking out is forgotten. Shiftdesk has a multi-stage safety net for this.
