The kiosk PIN

The kiosk PIN is a personal, 4-digit number that employees use to identify themselves at the tablet time clock.

Where does an employee get their PIN?

  • Themselves via the app: under Settings β†’ My PIN, the current PIN is shown or a new one is generated.
  • Via the admin: in the employee profile, an administrator can generate a PIN and share it with the employee.
When an employee is created, a PIN is generated automatically. For security reasons, it is shown in plain text only once β€” after that it is stored only as a hash.

Regenerating the PIN

If the PIN is unknown or should be changed, the employee (app) or the admin (profile) generates a new PIN. The old one immediately becomes invalid.

In the employee profile, the admin can also see whether the employee has already retrieved their PIN β€” handy for tracking who is ready for the terminal.

Security

  • The PIN is never stored in plain text, only as a hash.
  • After several failed attempts at the terminal, input is temporarily locked.
  • Every employee has their own PIN β€” so every booking is uniquely attributable.

Tip

Employees without a smartphone are best given their PIN directly by the admin from the employee profile. Related: Creating and inviting employees.
