Setting up the tablet time clock (admin)
Setting up the tablet time clock
An administrator does the setup once: enable kiosk, install the app, pair the tablet, and configure behavior.
1. Enable kiosk and set a password
Open Settings β Kiosk. Set a kiosk password (at least 8 characters) and enable kiosk mode. You need the password in a moment when pairing. (The tablet time clock is part of the higher plans.)
2. Install the terminal app
Download the Shiftdesk Kiosk app onto the tablet:
- iPad: App Store
- Android tablet: Google Play Store
3. Pair the tablet
- Open the app.
- Enter the company slug and kiosk password.
- Select the location where the tablet is placed from the list.
- Confirm β the tablet is permanently bound to this location. When clocking, the location is used automatically.
4. Configure behavior
Under Settings β Kiosk, you define:
| Option | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Identification | List (select employee, with search) or Number (enter employee number β privacy-friendly) |
| PIN required | whether a PIN is needed in addition to selection (recommended) |
| Show photos | profile pictures at the terminal β off by default (privacy) |
| Session duration | how long the device pairing stays valid before re-authentication |
| Idle timeout | after what idle time the terminal returns to the selection screen |
5. Manage devices
In the Active devices section, you see all paired tablets with location and last use. A device can be revoked at any time (e.g. if lost).
6. Secure the tablet against being left
So that only the time clock runs at the terminal:
- iPad: enable Guided Access in the iOS settings
- Android: enable App Pinning (pin the screen)
Locations
A prerequisite is at least one location β see Managing locations. How employees get their PIN is described in Getting and managing your kiosk PIN.
Tip
If the session expires (e.g. after several days), simply re-authenticate the tablet with the kiosk password β slug and location are saved.
