The tablet time clock: overview

The tablet time clock (kiosk)

The tablet time clock turns an iPad or Android tablet into a fixed clock-in terminal at the entrance or in the break room. Employees clock in there with a personal PIN β€” without their own smartphone or login.

What it is good for

  • businesses where not everyone has a work phone (hospitality, retail, production, cleaning)
  • a shared terminal per location instead of the app on every device
  • quick clocking in and out on the way past

How it works

  1. The tablet is paired once with your company and a location.
  2. It runs in kiosk mode β€” permanently showing only the Shiftdesk time clock.
  3. Employees select themselves (via list or employee number), enter their PIN, and clock in.
Setup is described in Setting up the tablet time clock (admin), and clocking in Clocking in and out at the terminal (PIN).

Platforms

The terminal app is available for iPad (iOS) and Android tablets. Both run in landscape and can be secured against being left via Guided Access (iOS) or App Pinning (Android).

Requirement

The tablet time clock is part of the higher plans and is enabled under Settings β†’ Kiosk. Whether clocked times count depends on the recording mode (see Recording modes: plan / clock / hybrid).

Tip

One terminal per entrance is usually enough. For several entrances, you simply pair several tablets with the same location.
